Heathrow's 'critical' expansion blueprint released

The government has published its blueprint for a third runway at Heathrow, describing expansion of the airport as "critical to national growth".

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander launched a consultation on the renamed Heathrow expansion national policy statement (HENPS), setting out the conditions needed if the project is to be given the go-ahead.

The airport's owners, Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL), want to build a full-length, 3,500-metre runway, which would require the M25 motorway being moved.

Cults Hotel to close as bosses reveal plans to turn it into Italian restaurant in major revamp

The Cults Hotel will close for three months to undergo a “major refurbishment” that will see the hotel’s restaurant redesigned and relaunched into a “modern Italian eatery”.

In a statement, it's owner Simon Cruickshank promised it will be a venue that “blends authentic cuisine with a vibrant social atmosphere”.

To give customers a taste of what is to come, the Cults Hotel is working with the same “incredible” design team that were behind the revamps of the Albyn and Bieldside Inn.

'Do not travel' advice for Dubai dropped

The Foreign Office has dropped its advice against travelling to Dubai, but warned British citizens that "the situation remains unpredictable" in the region.

The announcement makes it easier for people planning to visit the popular holiday destination, after the US and Iran reached an agreement to stop the war.

However, the foreign travel advice page, external for the United Arab Emirates said that despite the peace deal, "attacks could resume at short notice".

Number of job vacancies hits five year-low

The number of job vacancies has fallen to its lowest level for five years as businesses cut back on recruitment, according to the latest official figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that while the labour market remained "broadly stable", some areas showed signs of weakening.

The number of job vacancies in the March to May period fell to 707,000, the ONS said, the lowest level since February to April 2021.
