PM to meet head of OBR following market turmoil
The prime minister will meet the head of Britain's independent forecaster on Friday after days of market turmoil.
In an unusual move, Liz Truss and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng will meet the chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility's (OBR) to discuss the fallout after Friday's mini-budget.
The BBC reports that the watchdog offered to prepare a draft forecast in time for the mini-budget but it was not taken up.
A group of MPs has called for the forecast to be released "immediately".
News of the meeting with OBR chairman Richard Hughes came as a new poll gave Labour a 33% point lead over the Tories.
Diesel now record 17p more expensive than petrol
Diesel is now a record 17 pence per litre more expensive than petrol amid a surge in demand for diesel-powered generators to try and shore up electricity supplies.
The Telegraph says it now costs £9 more to fill up an average diesel car in the UK compared to its petrol equivalent, after shortages of gas for power stations triggered a search for alternatives, particularly in Europe.
Diesel is also in short supply amid efforts to shun Russia's supplies in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.
Average pump prices for a litre of fuel were 180.3p for diesel on Monday and 163.8p for petrol, according to Government figures analysed by the PA news agency and the RAC Foundation.

Apache has named Jillian Owen as its new top boss for the UK North Sea.
Ms Owen becomes UK country manager having worked for more than 20 years across the energy industry in upstream and midstream oil and gas, as well as a variety of senior commercial roles in the services sector.
A graduate of Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University in law and management, with a masters in marketing, The Press & Journal says Ms Owen will now act as Apache’s primary liaison between partners, government officials, regulators and other stakeholders.
Energy bills to rise form tomorrow
Energy prices will rise for millions of households on Saturday, but the increase has been cushioned by a government cap on the cost per unit.
It stepped in after an 80% increase in domestic gas and electricity bills was earmarked for the first half of winter.
The BBC says the typical annual bill will go up from £1,971 to £2,500 but will be further mitigated by cost-of-living payments.
But prices will still be twice as high as last winter, and charities say that will leave many struggling.
Edinburgh council agrees powers to regulate short-term lets
Edinburgh's city council has agreed new powers to regulate Airbnb-style short-term lets.
The licencing scheme will allow the authority to restrict tenements and shared door properties being used, and ensure that correct planning permission and safety checks are in place.
The BBC reports that the scheme is in addition to the city's short-term let control area, which will be introduced on 1 October.
It follows concern that such lettings have exacerbated housing shortages and fuelled anti-social behaviour.
The plans were described as "restrictive and anti-business" by the Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers, which said the city's real problem was a lack of house building.
New coins featuring monarch's portrait unveiled
