Function suite extension creates 40 new banqueting jobs

Forty new jobs will be created at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen when it opens its expanded function suite later this spring. The extension, which will increase event capacity by up to 60%, will create both full and part-time banqueting positions at the four-star silver rated hotel.

Recruitment events to fill the additional posts are being staged at the west end venue on April 3 and 10, with the new and expanded Granite Suite hosting its first event a few weeks later in May. The new banqueting jobs will bring the total number of people employed at the hotel to 100.

Work on the extended ballroom has been ongoing since the start of the year and is in response to a growing number of enquiries from event organisers looking for venues with capacity to host large-scale events.

The extension allows the number of conference delegates to increase to 320 from the current limit of 200, with a maximum of 400 people now being accommodated for a drinks reception and 320 for a dinner dance. The new ballroom can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate events sizes, and four private dining areas are also available.

Stephen Gow, general manager of The Chester Hotel, said: “The extension provides us with one of the biggest hotel event spaces in Aberdeen and the surrounding area, and we believe it will fill a significant gap in the market.

“We are now starting the process of recruiting new members to the banqueting team in both full and part-time roles. This is an exciting opportunity to join a luxury venue where there is an emphasis on providing exceptionally high levels of customer service.”

The recruitment events will take place at The Chester Hotel on Queen’s Road from 4-8pm on both April 3 and 10.

The Chester Hotel anticipates creating a further 15 jobs later this year when work to extend the venue into the neighbouring property at 55-57 Queen’s Road is completed. The extension will create 22 new bedrooms, bringing the total number of rooms and suites to 72, and will lead to the hotel bar doubling in size.

Based at 59-63 Queen’s Road, Aberdeen, The Chester Hotel holds a four star silver rating from the AA and its restaurant, IX Restaurant, holds two AA Rosettes. For further information, visit www.chester-hotel.com
