DukesHill, the new owner of butcher Donald Russell, has confirmed the closure of the company's Inverurie facility and the loss of a further 90 jobs.

Initially, the 90 remaining staff were kept on under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) - a UK law that protects employees' jobs when the business transfers to a new owner - but following a consultation period, the Harlaw Road factory will shut and all staff will be made redundant.

The Press and Journal reports the decision takes the total number of job losses to 120.

A DukesHill spokeswoman said: “Prior to the acquisition, Donald Russell Ltd had announced plans to cease trading and close the Inverurie site, with associated job losses.

“We acquired the direct-to-consumer brand and assets of the business and carried out a transfer of the remaining employees under TUPE regulations.

“The Inverurie site was not part of the transaction. Unfortunately, we were unable to avoid further redundancies, having concluded a 30-day collective redundancy consultation.”
