Aberdeen residents can apply for garden waste permits from today for 2022/23 brown bin collections.

Permits are available for £30 for an annual subscription for up to two bins for fortnightly collections of garden waste per household. Residents can also apply for a third garden waste bin for an additional £30.

Residents who do not have garden waste or do not want to pay for the collection should keep their brown bin for recycling food waste, for which there is no charge.

The new subscription year will begin on September 1, 2022 and will run until August 31, 2023 and applications are no longer being taken for the remainder of the year up until August 31, 2022.

Upon acceptance of an application, permits will be posted out within 21 days and must be in place from September 1 to inform collection crews that the bin is eligible for collection.

The Council will contact residents who have previously purchased a permit informing them how they can apply for the 2022/23 permit. Permits will not auto-renew so residents are asked to re-apply should they wish for a renewed permit to be sent out.

Garden waste permits can only be bought online, and residents who need support doing so can nominate another individual to apply on their behalf. Customers can also phone Aberdeen City Council’s customer contact centre on 03000 200 292 to make a telephone appointment for more support if needed.

Permits can be purchased from 10:00 on July 11 at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
