Gardening and nature videos during coronavirus

The first episodes of a special series of videos with ideas for people how to do gardening and nature-watching in your garden or home starring Aberdeen City Council gardeners and Countryside Rangers are now available on ACC’s social media feeds.

The short informative videos are being filmed at staff members’ own homes while they are following current Government guidelines of staying at home to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.

The videos are then edited and broadcast by the council’s communications team and are being shared on the ACC’s Twitter and Facebook pages. The first videos – ‘how to plant veg’ and ‘wildlife in your garden’ are available now.

The special videos are being created to help people either do some gardening at home or watch wildlife and nature while the majority of the public are staying at home. People are at the same time being asked to continue to observe rules on social distancing.

The first videos star environmental chargehand Danny Shand, who has a regular ACC vlog called The Council Gardener, and countryside ranger service manager Ian Talboys.

Danny said: “The videos will provide a few tips and ideas you can do from home to get growing in your garden during this difficult time for everybody.

“Hopefully the videos and what we plant will add a bit of colour and interest to your day.”

Ian said: “Now many of us are working from home we may not be able to get out to our favourite walk or wildlife site but it is amazing what you can see in your own back garden or on your local walk.

“We want to share what we have in our ordinary gardens to encourage others to take a closer look at nature on their doorstep.”

At the end of the videos, residents are invited to get in touch with the gardeners and Countryside Rangers with any queries, findings or photographs of their own.
