Garioch Sports Centre, in its 30th anniversary year, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Community Project category at the Scottish Green Energy Awards 2026.
The recognition celebrates the Centre’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its ambition to become one of Scotland’s leading rural community sports facilities in the transition towards being carbon neutral.
Since beginning its sustainability journey in 2018, Garioch Sports Centre has continued to invest in making the facility more energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.
The latest phase has seen substantial investment in Solar PV, with 110kW of solar generation capacity installed across roof-mounted and ground-mounted systems.
As an independent, self-sufficient Scottish charity operating on a not-for-profit basis, Garioch Sports Centre believes sustainability is about more than reducing emissions. It is also about protecting resources, helping to keep sport and physical activity accessible and affordable, and ensuring the Centre can continue serving the local community for generations to come.
Being recognised alongside other inspiring community initiatives from across Scotland is a huge honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team at Garioch Sports Centre, together with the support of Gavin Kerr and the team at Ryse Energy, our members, clubs and the wider community.
The winners will be announced at the Scottish Green Energy Awards in Edinburgh on 3rd December 2026.
Everyone at Garioch Sports Centre is incredibly proud to have reached the final and grateful to all those who have supported the Centre’s sustainability journey so far.
This recognition represents another important milestone as Garioch Sports Centre continues working to make a positive difference for both its community and the environment.
