Gary Walker & Co Wealth Management welcomes 4 new employees

Gary Walker has seen his company almost double in the last 6 months. “Despite the downturn in the local Oil & Gas market, we have experienced a period of consistent growth and looking to the future, we hope to maximise this by making these key appointments.”

Integral to this continued growth is the appointment of Martin Welsh as financial consultant. The first to graduate from the newly opened St. James’s Place Academy in Edinburgh, Martin worked in the oil & gas industry for 8 years before making a major change to his career. “I’d worked for Baker Oil Tools, GE Oil & Gas, Elmar, Subsea 7 and EnerMech as a design engineer but with the frequent rounds of redundancies, I felt it was time to find a career that had more longevity and also played to my strengths. I’d recently become a client of Gary Walker & Co and was very impressed by the way they handled my financial requirements. I was then made aware of St. James’s Place Wealth Management having their own Academy and decided this was the path I wanted to follow. However, there’s a pretty tough selection process consisting of 4 rounds of interviews and an exam before you even get the opportunity to be invited to join. Fortunately, I passed all the exams and went on to complete the course within 6 months. I met Gary when he became my mentor.”

“I’d had my eye on Martin whilst he was going through the Academy. I had no doubts that he would be a tremendous asset to our team and was quick to bring him on board once he’d graduated.”

Three other fresh faces at Gary Walker & Co include; Guy Pope (paraplanner), Madailein Alexander (trainee paraplanner) and Heather Ruth (events & marketing executive)
