Stagecoach Bluebird is celebrating the milestone of 500,000 passenger journeys made on their electric services, including service 727 (connecting Aberdeen city centre with the Airport) and service 59 (which links Northfield and Balnagask with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the City Centre). The fleet of 22 electric buses was launched earlier this year and has driven 1 million miles and saved 193 tonnes of CO2 - the equivalent of planting 1,162 trees.

The BYD ADL Enviro400EV double deckers were part-funded by the Scottish Government and introduced by Stagecoach Bluebird in Aberdeen to improve air quality in Aberdeen and to help in the fight against climate change. The buses have added features including USB charging, next stop announcements, recycled leather seats and live tracking.

To celebrate the milestone, Stagecoach Bluebird is hosting a giveaway that will include a chance to win exclusive Stagecoach “Electric Blue” merchandise. To enter the giveaway, customers need take a selfie on our electric 727 or 59 service and share on Twitter, tagging @StagecoachBBird and using the hashtag #ElectricBlue.

People from all over North Scotland are invited to participate. This milestone for Stagecoach represents the first of many eco-friendly solutions to come.

Peter Knight, Managing Director at Stagecoach, says:

“We are all really pleased to see this milestone of our electric, zero-emissions fleet of buses in Aberdeen. Sustainable transport is critical to the future of our planet and the heart of our business. Travelling by bus, when we can, is one of the easiest ways to address climate change through carbon reduction of our own journeys.”

Marie Connell, National Account Manager at Alexander Dennis, says:

“We are delighted that our British-built electric buses are proving a hit with their first 500,000 customers in Aberdeen as well as doing their part in reducing emissions at the same time as offering Stagecoach Bluebird a reliable fleet the company can count on. We look forward to continuing this relationship with the next 13 electric double deckers due later this year, which will allow even more customers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to enjoy cleaner and smoother bus journeys.”

Jenny Gilruth, Minister for Transport at Transport Scotland said:

“It’s welcome news that customers of Stagecoach Bluebird have made over half a million electric journeys in Aberdeen, supported by over £7 million Scottish Government investment through ScotZEB and SULEBS. Bus is already an environmentally friendly way to travel when compared to private car use. Electric buses bring even more benefits – and I’m pleased that Scottish Government funding is helping to accelerate the transformation of bus fleets across the country, responding to the climate emergency and improving air quality in our towns and cities.”

The giveaway will take place between 13th of October until 14th of November, entries must tag our Twitter social media account; @StagecoachBBird and use the hashtag #ElectricBlue to be in for the chance of winning the exclusive prizes.
