Two of Greenwell’s divisions have combined their expertise to support OneSubsea with a substantial programme of office furniture and pallet racking works across its Aberdeen facilities.

The project has seen Mel Barclay, from Greenwell’s Office Furniture division, and BMS Manager Euan Grant work closely with OneSubsea to advise and plan solutions designed to make the best use of both its office and operational spaces.

Mel led the furniture side of the project, which included the planning, supply and installation of 76 height-adjustable desks.

The sit-stand desks give employees the flexibility to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the working day, encouraging movement and providing an important addition to workplace comfort and wellbeing.

On the pallet racking side, Euan has drawn on 20 years of experience with Greenwell and his extensive knowledge of storage solutions to advise OneSubsea on how best to maximise its existing and available yard space.

At OneSubsea’s Portlethen facility, Greenwell supplied and installed 52 bays of external pallet racking, creating an additional 482 pallet locations, followed by a further 11 bays providing another 88 pallet locations.

The team also rearranged existing racking within the yard to make better use of the space already available.

Greenwell then supported OneSubsea with the relocation of racking from its Kirkhill facility to Portlethen. The project involved dismantling 23 bays of nine-metre-high racking and 111 bays of external racking, before stacking and banding the equipment for transportation.

The racking was transported to Portlethen and re-erected in various locations, with Greenwell supplying new boards and anti-collapse mesh systems where required.

Reusing and reconfiguring existing racking formed an important part of the project, allowing equipment to be given a new purpose while helping OneSubsea maximise storage capacity at its Portlethen site.

Greenwell also carries out pallet racking inspections across OneSubsea’s racking installations, providing ongoing support to help ensure the systems continue to be maintained and used safely.

Mel Barclay said: “It has been great to be involved from the planning stage and work with OneSubsea to create an office layout that works for the people using it.

“The 76 height-adjustable desks are a fantastic addition. Giving staff the flexibility to sit or stand and change position throughout the day encourages movement and brings an added wellbeing benefit to the working environment.”

Euan Grant said: “Having worked with Greenwell for 20 years, I’ve seen how important the advice and planning stage is, particularly when it comes to pallet racking.

“This project wasn’t simply about supplying more racking. We looked at the space available, what OneSubsea already had and how we could make the best use of both.

“By rearranging existing racking, creating additional pallet locations and relocating and reusing equipment from Kirkhill at Portlethen, we’ve been able to help OneSubsea significantly increase its storage capacity.”

The project demonstrates Greenwell’s Advise, Plan, Supply & Install approach, with its Office Furniture and Pallet Racking & Shelving divisions working from the initial planning stages through to final installation.
