Businesses across the energy sector are being urged to take part in the 42nd edition of the Energy Transition Survey, launched this week by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Johnston Carmichael and D2Zero.

The survey – now in its 21st year – is regarded as one of the most authoritative barometers of industry confidence and activity across oil, gas and low-carbon energy. More than 100 companies typically respond, providing unique insights into investment, jobs and diversification trends.

The call for participation comes at a pivotal moment for the sector. The 41st survey, published in May, revealed a growing exodus of skills and investment overseas, raising fears that the UK is losing the supply chain required to deliver net zero.

Among the most striking findings last time out were warnings that two-thirds of firms expect to increase overseas headcount by 2030, and that confidence in UK energy policy has displaced commodity price as the number one long-term concern.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Russell Borthwick said the next edition of the survey will be “mission critical” in shaping the evidence base as industry and government grapple with questions of competitiveness, energy security and the future of the North Sea.

He added: “We cannot deliver a just transition without understanding the challenges our members face on the ground. That’s why every response counts – the more businesses who take part, the stronger the voice we can project to policymakers in Edinburgh and Westminster.”

The survey is open now, with results to be published later this year. Companies of all sizes and across all parts of the energy supply chain are encouraged to contribute.
