Crowds were drawn to Thainstone Centre this weekend as over 4,000 lots were met with some enthusiastic bidding – with a top price of £87,000 achieved for a 2012 Volvo FM9/450 Lorry – at the largest plant, machinery and equipment sale in the north and north east.

The renowned and popular collective equipment sale – taking place eight times a year - attracted a crowd of over 2,500 potential buyers and 15,000 online viewers from all across the UK and Europe as the teams from Aberdeen & Northern Marts and Thainstone Specialist Auctions (part of the ANM Group) worked tirelessly to sell 83% of the lots available on the day.

Reaching a global audience, a live broadcast of the sale produced outstanding results with 100 registered online bidders, 10,000 viewers via social media channels, over 3,500 customers watching through the website and 870 potential buyers accessing it through i-bidder with winning bids coming from the UK, Ireland, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden and Romania.

The sale of heavy commercials was notable achieving top price followed by the tractors and plant category achieving £26,000 for a 2008 JCB JS160 Tracked Digger, £24,000 for 2009 JCB 3CX Digger and £23,000 for a 2011 Manitou MLT634-120.  Next up was £23,000 for a 2009 Mercedes Axor 3240K, £20,500 for a 2009 Scania R620 Topline 6x2 and £20,000 for a Montracon Step Frame trailer all from the heavy commercials section.  Top prices in other categories featured £9,800 for a 2006 Range Rover Vogue TdV8 Auto for light commercials and 4x4’s and £2,800 for Ifor Williams TT3621 Tipping Mesh Trailer from the trailers, caravans and containers offering.

Mark Barrack, Head of Specialist Auctions at ANM Group, said: “Rain certainly did not stop determined buyers from attending our second collective sale of the year and making it another great success.  Bringing buyers and sellers together, utilising the competitive price discovery mechanism of the auction system, we strive to achieve maximum value for all of our customers on the day.

“In addition to our live auction, we are delighted that raising awareness of our sales - through all of our communication channels - has been extremely productive in reaching a wider audience. Continuing to grow on our reputation as Scotland’s premier independent machinery sale, our highly experienced auctioneers and support teams plan to build on this success to make each sale bigger and better than the last.”

The next plant, machinery and equipment sale is scheduled for Saturday 18th April 2017 from 9 am at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.  Consignors are encouraged to advise of their entries as soon as possible to receive maximum exposure to potential buyers.
