Heavy snow is causing a number of north and north-east roads to close along with early travel disruption at Aberdeen International Airport.

Two junctions of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route were closed at 8am this morning due to snow, and Traffic Scotland said a number of other North-east roads have been shut, including the A93 Braemar to Spittal of Glenshee, A939 Cockbridge to Tomintoul and B974 Banchory to Fettercairn.

A number of schools are closed across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and the Met Office has said snow and ice could cause travel disruption in Scotland through to Friday night.

Aberdeen International Airport said some early morning departures were delayed as teams worked to clear the runway, and flights have now resumed.

The Met Office said many locations across Scotland could see between 5-10cm (2-4in) of snow at the end of the week.

The heaviest snowfalls are expected on Friday with the Highlands, Aberdeenshire and central and southern Scotland covered by warnings.

Weather alerts had earlier been issued for North and North east Scotland.
