Wildlife-lovers of all ages and abilities are invited to become nature detectives during two free events in city parks to help identify creatures living in them.

The Bio-blitz events in Duthie and Seaton parks include interactive activities for kids, grown-ups, beginners, and experts alike.

There is no requirement to book as people can come along on the day, and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing, and Public Protection Convener Councillor Miranda Radley said: “The Bio-blitz events are very popular as they’re a fun and interactive way to discover and identify what beasties are in our parks, gardens, and more wild areas.

“The events also help our Park and Countryside Rangers, and environmental science staff members, keep a record of what creatures are in the parks which is part of a wider project to improve areas for wildlife focusing particularly on pollinating insects.”

The free events are being held at:

  • Seaton Park - Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 11am to 3pm;
  • Duthie Park - Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 11am to 3pm.

The Bio-blitz events are part of the Aberdeen Flagship Parks for Pollinators Project which aims to create and improve wildflower areas, woodland, wetland, and pond areas for wildlife, focusing particularly on pollinating insects at Duthie and Seaton Parks.

Pollinators include bumblebees, bees, hoverflies, butterflies, moths, flies and various other insects and beetles.
