The latest episode of Seasonal Discussions features Julie Baghurst and Nicola Watson, founders of KIN, in a conversation exploring the organisation’s origins and ambitions for the region’s creative community.

Hosted by Chris McDonald, the episode looks at how Julie and Nicola first met while studying at Robert Gordon University and how that connection eventually led to the development of KIN. The discussion also covers the growth of the charity’s board, and the role collaboration plays in shaping its direction.

A key focus of the conversation is KIN’s aim to support people at the beginning of their creative careers and help strengthen opportunities across both the city and the wider shire.

Julie and Nicola said:

"We just want to help people at the start of their creative careers. There has been a problem in Aberdeen with people feeling that they have to leave. There’s nothing wrong with leaving Aberdeen, but if you would like to stay here and have a creative future, we want to help make that happen. And we want to do that through connection."

The episode also explores their perspective on the future of Aberdeen’s creative sector and the importance of building stronger links between individuals, organisations and communities across the North-east.

Overall, the discussion provides insight into a grassroots initiative focused on creating opportunities, strengthening networks and supporting emerging creative talent within the region.
