HMRC guidance update on leaving the EU

HM Revenue and Customs has issued new guidance to businesses trading internationally in relation to the UK’s transition out of the European Union.

Preference document (EUR1’s etc) will continue to be issued as they are today. The UK Government has intimated its position to the EU and expect that the EU will communicate this to its member states and countries with whom the EU has trade agreements once the Withdrawal Agreement has concluded its passage through parliament.

HMRC remains concerned that border agencies in importing countries may be unaware of the transition arrangements, which will be in effect from February 1, 2020 through to January 1, 2021. It is therefore asking for the quick reporting of any instances of documents being refused by any country in order that a fast response system is in place to address any issues.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce will report any incidents, with the information being shared with the Department for International Trade and HMRC.
