Holyrood garden party honour for MND nurse

A North-east nurse is being celebrated for dedicating more than 40 years in the profession.

Liza Moir, 63, from Aberdeenshire was invited to the Queen’s Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse this month for her work with a patient with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Liza said: “I understand the invite came about because of the care I provided over two years to a gentleman living with MND. I provide care in people’s own homes through the Marie Curie Grampian Nursing Service and for the family, the two visits I was able to make to them every week meant a great deal to them, including his wife being able to attend her weekly exercise class safe in the knowledge that I was providing his necessary medication.”

After retiring as a district nurse, Liza started with Marie Curie in January 2010. Marie Curie clinical nurse manager for Grampian Lorraine Wiseman said it was a “lovely recognition and celebration” of Liza’s nursing career and the “hundreds” of families she supported.
