Home-Start Aberdeen has been awarded the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) accreditation, recognising the charity’s commitment to providing a high-quality experience for its volunteers.

The Investing in Volunteers standard is the UK’s recognised quality benchmark for volunteer management, awarded to organisations that demonstrate best practice in how they recruit, support and develop their volunteers.

Achieving the accreditation places Home-Start Aberdeen among more than 350 organisations across the UK that have met the standard, reinforcing its position as a trusted and supportive organisation for those giving their time to help local families.

Volunteers are at the heart of Home-Start Aberdeen’s work, providing practical and emotional support to families with young children across the city. Through regular home visits and group support, volunteers help parents build confidence, reduce isolation and create stable, nurturing environments for their children.

Cameron McCready, Chief Executive of Home-Start Aberdeen, said: “We are incredibly proud to achieve the Investing in Volunteers accreditation. Our volunteers are at the core of everything we do, and this recognition reflects the care, time and commitment we invest in ensuring they feel supported, valued and equipped in their role.

“The accreditation process gave us the opportunity to reflect on how we work with our volunteers and strengthen our approach even further. It’s important to us that volunteering with Home-Start Aberdeen is not only impactful for the families we support, but also a positive and rewarding experience for those who give their time to help others.”

The accreditation highlights the important role volunteers play in supporting families across Aberdeen, particularly at a time when many are facing increasing challenges such as financial pressure, isolation and mental health difficulties.

Adrian Murtagh, IiV Lead in Scotland at Volunteer Scotland, said: “We’re extremely proud of all the organisations that achieve the Investing in Volunteers accreditation. Our mission is to create a Scotland where everyone can volunteer more often and throughout their lives. Organisations like Home-Start Aberdeen embracing this mission with us to become an IiV achiever ensures that all volunteers have a positive experience, which is invaluable.”

Home-Start Aberdeen has been supporting families in the city for over 35 years, working alongside parents to help them build confidence, strengthen relationships and give their children the best possible start in life.
