The newest episode of Seasonal Discussions sees host Chris McDonald sit down with Nathan Hague, founder of Utopia Body Arts, for a conversation centred around personal growth, creative culture and establishing an independent business in the North-east.
Recorded at the studio’s home in Albert Street, the episode explores the path that brought Nathan to Scotland and eventually led to the creation of Utopia Body Arts. He reflects on his connection to the country, the character of Aberdeen, and why he feels the city is beginning to grow into its own identity.
A major focus of the discussion is the development of Utopia Body Arts itself, including how the business evolved from a much smaller setup into a larger creative space.
Nathan said:
"The business was built off me opening a little private piercing studio down in Huntly Street. A few months after that, we’d outgrown it and that’s when we found the old Borderline skate shop down at McCombie’s."
The conversation also explores the collaborative nature of the studio, the team that has formed around it, and the importance of creating a welcoming environment for clients and visitors alike.
Blending personal stories with reflections on entrepreneurship and creativity, the episode provides insight into the journey behind one of Aberdeen’s well-known independent body arts studios.
