The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) / Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) has confirmed that the prestigious OCEANS Conference will return to The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) from June 21-24, 2027, marking the third time the international marine technology event has been hosted in the city.

Having previously welcomed delegates in 2007 and 2017, Aberdeen will once again bring together the global ocean engineering and marine science community for a programme of cutting-edge research, industry innovation, and cross-sector collaboration.

The OCEANS Conference is a major international forum for scientists, engineers, industry leaders and policymakers working in ocean engineering, marine science and technology. It is organised by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) and a local team from University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University.

Steve Daun, Head of Association Sales at The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA), said: “We are delighted to welcome the IEEE OES OCEANS Conference back to TECA. Securing an event of this international stature for a third time is a tremendous endorsement of both our venue and the city of Aberdeen. It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything our facilities and the wider region have to offer, and it brings significant economic and cultural benefits to the local area. Hosting thousands of delegates from across the world reinforces our position as a leading destination for major association conferences.”

Nicola Pearce, Head of CPD and Event Services at the University of Aberdeen, said: “Bringing OCEANS back to Aberdeen is a proud moment for the University and for the city. The conference provides an exceptional platform for our researchers, students and professional services teams to engage with an international audience, and it reflects the strength of the relationships we have built across academia and industry. We look forward to working with our partners to deliver a truly memorable event in 2027.”

Dr Thanga Thevar, Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, said: “To have the IEEE OES OCEANS Conference return to the city for a third occasion is an honour, following the hugely successful conferences held here in 2007 and 2017.

Professor Radhakrishna Prabhu, Professor in smart sensors and instrumentation at Robert Gordon University, said: “OCEANS 2027 provides an excellent chance to highlight Aberdeen’s world-leading strengths in marine science, engineering, technology and innovation, while uniting an international community of researchers, industry leaders, students and policymakers.

“For Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen, the conference is a particularly valuable opportunity to demonstrate the breadth and impact of our research and education across the marine and subsea sectors, and to strengthen connections between academia, industry and the wider ocean technology community.

“We are eager to greet delegates from across the globe in June 2027.”

Laura Wilson, Head of Aberdeen Convention Bureau, said: “With our city’s world-class expertise in ocean engineering, marine technology, offshore energy and subsea innovation, Aberdeen is a natural home for this world-renowned conference. We anticipate sharing the region’s knowledge, innovation, and collaborative strengths with delegates.”

Further details on the programme, call for papers and registration will be released in due course.
