ACVO TSI shares the latest edition of ACVO News, the free digital magazine highlighting the work, achievements and opportunities from across Aberdeen’s third sector.
ACVO News provides a platform for local organisations to share their impact, alongside the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies. The publication also features insight from the ACVO team and wider sector, helping to keep organisations and communities informed and connected.
In this edition, ACVO highlights the impact of volunteering and community through two short films. Readers can learn about Clan Cancer Support’s walking group where Walk Leaders Alan and Kenny, alongside participant Archie, reflect on the friendship, peer support and sense of community it provides. The newsletter also highlights volunteers Lawrence and Helen at Danestone Community Centre’s Brunch Club, where they help create a warm, welcoming space for people to meet, socialise and build connections every week.
The latest in ACVO’s Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen film series shines a light on David, volunteer counsellor at Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC), who shares his experience in providing a safe space where people can be heard, understood and supported as they navigate life in a new country. He also shares what volunteering at GREC has meant to him and why he would encourage others to get involved.
In funding news, the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund is open to applications until 5pm on Monday 31 August. Grants of up to £50,000 is available to support community led projects in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. Inspiring films from North East Rider Volunteers Scotland (NERVS), Greyhope Bay and Cycling Without Age Scotland showcase their funded projects, encouraging others to contribute to a fair and inclusive transition to net zero.

Every organisation has its own story to tell, and every month we're reminded of the difference the third sector makes to people and communities across our city.”

- Aberdeen Arts Centre smashes latest fundraising target, raising £87.9k in just six weeks to help secure the future of the much-loved arts and culture venue.
- Alex Busch is appointed as new Chief Executive Officer at VSA, taking on the leadership of the social care charity as it continues to support people and communities across the North East.
- Somah Shepherd receives the 2026 Angela Joss Memorial Award at shmu’s annual awards ceremony in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the local community.
