ACVO TSI shares the latest edition of ACVO News, the free digital magazine highlighting the work, achievements and opportunities from across Aberdeen’s third sector.

ACVO News allows local organisations to share their impact, alongside the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies. The publication also features insight from the ACVO team and wider sector, helping to keep organisations and communities informed and connected.

Coinciding with Volunteers' Week (1-7 June 2026), ACVO is proud to launch the brand new Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate. Volunteer Aberdeen, managed by ACVO, in partnership with the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, have created a new awards initiative to recognise and celebrate the volunteers making a positive difference across the city. More information about the award, and how to nominate volunteers, can be found at: lordprovostcertificate.co.uk

ACVO also shines a special Volunteers' Week spotlight on volunteers from Langstane Housing Association, Inchgarth Community Centre and the Gathimba Edwards Foundation. In the latest Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen films, these individuals share their volunteering experience, the impact it has had on their lives and why they encourage others to get involved.

Reflecting on these outstanding volunteering contributions, Maggie Hepburn, ACVO Chief Executive, says: “Volunteering does not happen in isolation. It sits at the heart of a vibrant network of charities, community groups and social enterprises working across Aberdeen to support people, tackle challenges and create opportunities.

“The stories and updates featured throughout this edition reflect that shared commitment, showcasing organisations and individuals who continue to demonstrate the value of collaboration, compassion and community action across our city.”

Beyond Volunteers’ Week, there is also positive funding news. Year 5 of the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund is open for applications, with up to £50,000 available for third sector organisations to deliver green community projects across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire & Moray. Working in partnership, ACVO, AVA, tsiMORAY, NESCAN Hub and Money for Moray will once again engage with communities to help them take part in the transition to net zero, sharing ideas and providing project development support and application assistance. Other third sector updates this month include:

  • Pillar of Hope mark the opening of their brand new charity shop in Ferryhill, welcoming members of the community to explore the new community space.
  • Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) has been named the official charity partner of the new Aberdeen Marathon event.
  • Nicola Fry is appointed as the new chair of The Archie Foundation, bringing extensive experience in governance, HSEQ and organisational transformation to the board of trustees.

ACVO encourages Aberdeen-based third sector organisations, charities and community groups to get in touch and share their stories. Featuring your story is a great way to promote local projects, celebrate achievements and raise awareness of valuable work in Aberdeen’s communities.
