ACVO TSI shares the latest edition of ACVO News, the free digital magazine highlighting the work, achievements and opportunities from across Aberdeen’s third sector.
ACVO News continues to provide a platform for local organisations to share their impact, alongside the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies. The publication also features insight from the ACVO team and wider sector, helping to keep organisations and communities informed and connected.
This month, ACVO highlights the work of MindLink - an organisation that has grown into a multi-language service supporting individuals across different backgrounds and experiences. Marking its first year as a registered charity, Clinical Lead Magda and Operations Manager Magdalena share insights into the importance of accessible and inclusive mental health support within Aberdeen’s diverse communities.
The latest release of ACVO’s “Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen” film series celebrates the contributions of local volunteers from Instant Neighbour. Ken and Kimberley reflect on their personal journeys with volunteering at the charity, offering a powerful perspective on the positive impact giving time back has on both individuals and the wider community.
Reflecting on these stories, Maggie Hepburn, ACVO Chief Executive, says: “There is a clear thread running through this month’s edition around reflection, voice and how we continue to tell the story of the sector in Aberdeen. That is seen both in marking significant moments and in creating new opportunities to share learning, insight and experience across our communities.”
This focus on sharing insight and amplifying voices is further strengthened by the launch of the new ACVO Insights podcast. In its debut episode, Policy and Consultations Officer Alasdair Ross joins Communications Officer Andrew Davidson to explore the meaning of “community empowerment”, discussing the increasing pressures facing the third sector as it continues to deliver essential services in a challenging funding environment.
Finally, ACVO extends its sincere thanks and best wishes to Gette Cobban who retires from her role as Senior Development Officer (The Promise). Since joining the organisation in May 2023, and following an impactful career spanning more than 20 years in the third sector, Gette has made a significant contribution to supporting children, young people and families, as well as strengthening practice across services.
Other third sector updates this month include:
- Aberdeen Arts Centre announce Laura Main as patron to help support the grassroots arts venue during their ongoing fundraising campaign.
- Gathimba Edwards Foundation establish a new Fundraising Advisory Board to support their long-term fundraising strategy as demand for services grows.
- Friends of Seaton Park mark their 10th CakeFest event, bringing the community together through baking, socialising and fundraising for the park.
Third sector organisations, charities and community groups are encouraged to contact ACVO to share their stories and news. Featuring your story is a great way to promote local projects, celebrate achievements and raise awareness of valuable work in Aberdeen’s communities.
