Maggie’s Aberdeen is set to receive £120,000 after a successful fundraising dinner dance, headlined by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, was held at Thainstone Exchange on January 27.
The ‘Scottish Night with a Twist’, was widely supported by local businesses including ANM Group, Strachan’s and Scotbeef and also by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who were delighted to announce their selection of Maggie’s Centre Aberdeen as their charity of choice for 2018.
Every year, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers select a charity that is close to one of the band members and this year it was the choice of original member, Kevin MacDonald. Kevin stated: “Unfortunately cancer is now a part of our every day lives and having witnessed first hand the effect it has on a family, Maggie’s seemed to be the perfect fit for me this year. Being a lad that was brought up in Peterculter, I was keen to support Maggie’s in Aberdeen.”
The dinner dance also featured an auction and silent auction, with all auction lots sponsored by companies and individuals, raising valuable funds for the North-east charity which provides vital support to those undertaking cancer treatment in both Aberdeen city and shire.
The funds raised means Maggie’s can continue to provide its valuable support to the North-east community. Maggie’s relies completely on the generosity of donations and fundraising events like this are vital to the charity.
Paula Cormack, fundraising manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre, said: “The ‘Scottish Night with a Twist’ was an excellent evening of entertainment, food and company, with 400 people in attendance.
“We are blown away by the generosity of those who attended and participated in the auction and silent auction, and by the kind donations from the sponsors of the evening.”
Prizes for the auctions included a Loch Lomond seaplane West coast explorer tour for two, a spa weekend for two at Gleneagles and specially commissioned paintings by renowned artists Iain Faulkner and Glen Scouller.
Former chairman of ANM Group Pat Machray, led the special committee responsible for the event. He said: “We are delighted to have been able to raise such an amount in one evening for Maggie’s Aberdeen. We know how beneficial it is for the many people from across the region who use the Centre.
“I would like to thank all the businesses in the area who supported the evening. Additionally, the kind donations from table hosts were outstanding and we are thrilled to be able to present such a sizeable amount to the Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen.”
