Influence Charity, in partnership with Black Scottish Stories, is producing a multicultural documentary that celebrates the lived experiences of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) individuals in Aberdeen.
Through storytelling, creative media, and advocacy, we aim to build belonging, dignity, and fairness for all.
Project aims
- Highlight journeys of resilience, culture, and community among BAME individuals in Aberdeen.
- Amplify voices often overlooked in mainstream narratives.
- Explore challenges of migration, integration, and identity.
- Promote inclusive practices that strengthen Scotland’s diverse communities.
Collaboration will deliver
- A documentary film: Belonging Begins With a Journey; weaving together real-life stories of courage, culture, and belonging.
- A public awareness campaign shared through councils, churches, housing associations, and community networks.
- Opportunities for individuals to share their stories anonymously if they wish.
- A £500 honorarium for each selected story featured in the final documentary.

Influence is inviting individuals from BAME backgrounds (ages 18–65+) who live or have lived in Aberdeen to share their personal journeys. From challenges to celebrations, culture shock to community building, your story matters. Together, we can shape a richer, more inclusive narrative about life in Scotland today.
