BrewDog co-founder James Watt is considering buying one of three breweries as he presses ahead with plans for his new beer company, Second Best.

Watt, who left BrewDog in May 2024, says 50,000 people have registered to own a stake in the new venture, with recipes now completed for its first two beers – a 6.7% West Coast IPA and a 5.4% Export Helles.

Brand designs are expected next week, while Second Best is also speaking to brewing partners about producing its first batches before a permanent brewery is secured.

“We are looking at three breweries that Second Best could potentially buy,” Watt said.

“And while we figure that out, we’re talking to some brilliant brewing partners about making the first batches for us.

“Most importantly, we’re going to build this company with the people who own it. We’ll share the designs. The beers. The decisions. The wins. The inevitable f***-ups.

“I am excited to be building again. Let’s make some great beer.”
