On Friday 4th April, Newcross Healthcare and Bon Accord Care held an event at Kingswood Court, Aberdeen, one of Bon Accord Care’s sheltered housing complexes.
Over the last few years, Newcross and Bon Accord Care have built up an excellent working relationship, with Bon Accord Care using Newcross for support with staffing across some of its services.
Last year, Bon Accord Care was unaware that when booking a shift through the Newcross Portal, the service was entered into a yearly prize draw. It was then, at the end of last year, the team at Kingswood Court were informed that they had the winning ticket!
As a result of the winnings, all tenants at Kingswood Court were asked what would be on their wishlist if they won £1,000. The most popular response was an afternoon of entertainment. This was then the chosen activity the money would be spent on, with the theme ‘celebration of Scotland’ selected by Newcross and Bon Accord Care.

After winning our recent competition, we worked together to bring a delightful afternoon of live jazz music paired with traditional Scottish cuisine for their residents. Seeing the joy and connection this brought to everyone was truly rewarding.

The event invitation was put out to all tenants and those living in the sheltered housing cottages, for an inclusive event allowing tenants to not only enjoy music and a tasty meal, but to have a good catch up also!
Sara Kemp, assistant manager at Kingswood Court, said: “It was lovely to see tenants eating their haggis, neeps and tatties together and the atmosphere in the dining room was lively and full of chatter. The music from the jazz band was heard through the building, and tenants were heard clapping along.
"Events bring inclusion in their community, promote positive wellbeing and support mobility.”

Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, the delightful music and traditional Scottish cuisine, bringing back memories and offering everyone a true taste of Scotland!
