John Bell Pipeline Equipment Company Ltd (JBP) is marking its 50th anniversary in 2026 with more than a celebration.
The Inverurie-based pipeline and valve specialist has announced a significant six-figure capital investment in its Thainstone headquarters, with construction of a new 700 sq ft reception and client meeting facility due to commence in December 2026 and complete in March 2027. As part of the same project, the company’s existing reception area will be converted into a dedicated canteen and breakout space for its employees.
The investment, designed by Inverurie-based architects McWilliam Lippe, will transform both the client-facing and employee facilities at JBP’s purpose-built complex at Camiestone Road, Thainstone. The new reception and meeting facility will provide a contemporary, professional environment for the international clients and partners who visit the company’s Aberdeenshire base, while the conversion of the current reception into a modern canteen and breakout area reflects JBP’s commitment to the wellbeing and experience of its people.
The development is a statement of intent from a business that has never stood still. Having purchased the freehold of its 6.5-acre Thainstone complex outright in 2022, JBP is now investing further in the physical environment to match the ambitions of the business.
Willie Moir, Managing Director, John Bell Pipeline Equipment Company Ltd said: “I am extremely proud to be leading JBP at such a significant milestone. 50 years is quite the achievement, and it is a testament to the dedication of every individual who has been part of this business. JBP is a progressive, proactive and professional company, and together with the current management team, we will continue to nurture our success, develop new opportunities, and build on the outstanding legacy that has been established.
This investment is a reflection of where JBP is heading. As we celebrate 50 years in business, we wanted to mark this not just with words, but with action. A modern, world-class reception and meeting environment sends a clear message to our clients, our people and the wider industry — JBP is here, we are growing, and we are investing in the future of this business and this region.”
A Legacy Built on Expertise and Integrity
JBP was founded in 1976 by John Bell, initially operating from Stoneywood, Aberdeen, at a time when the North Sea oil and gas industry was entering a period of transformational growth. Established on clear founding principles: maintaining strong stock levels, adding genuine value for clients and delivering outstanding customer service, principles that remain at the core of the business to this day.
Over five decades, JBP has grown from a regional steel stockholder into a globally recognised supplier of pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, GRP systems and ancillary products, serving clients across more than 50 countries. Today, the company’s team carries a combined industry experience of 486 years, equipping JBP to meet the most complex and demanding requirements of its international client base.
Strength Through Partnership: Part of the International Bianco Group
In 2012, JBP was acquired by National Tube Stockholders (NTS) and became an integral part of the international Bianco Group, a family-owned and managed organisation founded in Northern Italy in 1958, comprising more than 20 steel stockholding, distribution, processing and trading companies operating throughout the UK, Europe, the United States, Canada and beyond. With over 1,000 employees, 220,000m² of covered warehousing and stocks exceeding 600,000 tonnes, the Bianco Group serves more than 80,000 customers worldwide.
This alignment has significantly strengthened JBP’s position in the marketplace, enhancing its product range and its ability to respond rapidly to the evolving demands of the energy and industrial sectors. JBP operates a 24/7, 365-days-a-year service, with early morning and weekend emergency breakdown requests handled as a matter of routine.
Global Reach, Local Roots
While JBP was originally established to serve the Aberdeen oil and gas market, the company has diversified considerably, extending its reach into new sectors and international markets. Today, JBP exports to destinations including Azerbaijan, Ghana, Brazil and Qatar, with plans to develop new relationships across Africa and the Middle East.
Despite its global footprint, JBP remains firmly rooted in Aberdeenshire. The decision to invest in the Thainstone site underlines the company’s long-term commitment to the North-east Scotland economy and its role as a significant regional employer.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
As JBP enters its sixth decade, the company’s strategic development programme remains firmly in motion. The new reception and meeting facility, due for completion in spring 2027, is one element of a broader investment strategy encompassing stock, people and infrastructure. With a strong foundation, experienced leadership and the support of the Bianco Group, JBP is well-positioned to build on its 50-year legacy and drive further growth in the years ahead.
JBP extends its sincere thanks to its clients, suppliers, partners and employees — past and present — whose loyalty and commitment have been central to everything the company has achieved over the past 50 years.
