North-east cyclist Jeb Tyrie has successfully completed the demanding Tour de 4 cycling event alongside his son, Dylan, raising an impressive £6,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
The duo tackled the Red Route (90 kilometres with over 1,100 metres of ascent) in under five hours, an exceptional achievement that highlights both their determination and the generous support of their community.
Despite the challenging terrain, including a steep hill that required Jeb to push his manual bike for 100 metres, the pair persevered. The Tour de 4, which drew 3,500 riders is dedicated to raising awareness and support for those living with stage 4 cancer. For Jeb, who is living with stage 4 prostate cancer, the ride had a personal significance.
Fundraising efforts were bolstered by the donation of a stunning oil painting of the Culter Burn by Edinburgh artist Trina Bohan. Inspired by a cherished family visit to Aberdeenshire, the artwork was auctioned with proceeds going directly to Jeb’s GoFundMe campaign. Trina also hosted an open day at Leith Custom House on 27th September, further supporting the cause.
In addition to the ride, a well-attended garden party in August brought together around 50 supporters, raising additional funds in a joyful and sunny setting.
