Kilted Chef’s Candlelit Vigil Raises £35,000 for Friends of ANCHOR

Award-winning restaurant, Eat on the Green marked its 14th birthday last week by handing over £35,000 to Friends of ANCHOR.

Following its ‘anchor of light’ event in December, which saw hundreds of people from across the region join together to create a symbol of hope, strength and solidarity against cancer, whilst raising funds for the north-east charity.

The event included a ‘service of hope’ in Udny Green church where global superstar, Susan Boyle wowed crowds singing a medley of songs, including ‘I dreamed a dream’ which she sang on Britain’s Got Talent.

Kilted chef Craig Wilson, proprietor of Eat on the Green says, “It was my dream to give people the opportunity to come together in a show of unity and respect, and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support we received. It was a very inspiring and emotional afternoon and having Susan Boyle perform was fantastic.

“To raise £35,000 for Friends of ANCHOR, from this event, is truly phenomenal. The money will help them continue to support patients in the Anchor unit and support its Dream Big appeal, which aims to recruit a world-class cancer research team to Aberdeen.

“Friends of ANCHOR is a cause which is very close to my heart and since we began supporting them three years ago, the total money we have raised has reached £80,000. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has walked through the door at Eat on the Green and got behind our events and fundraising initiatives to enable us to pledge this massive sum.”

James Milne, chairman of Friends of ANCHOR comments; "For Craig and the team to raise as much as they have these last three years is outstanding. An example of local supporting local at it's best!

"The huge success of Anchor of Light event at Christmas was a beautiful and fitting finale to a three-year partnership we were very lucky to have with Eat on the Green."

Craig Wilson opened Eat on the Green in 2004, transforming a small village pub into one of the most renowned, award-winning restaurants in Scotland. It underwent a £100K refurbishment in 2015, upgrading the main restaurant and installing a new bar area.

Craig continues, “2018 is a big year for us as it marks our 14th year in business. We have been fortunate to establish a loyal customer base and a firm following of food lovers and we pride ourselves in delivering the finest, freshest, local ingredients along with attentive, first class service. To remain dynamic and push the boundaries, we will be investing in further upgrades to the restaurant this year, widening our food and drink offering and bringing something new and exciting to the north east.”
