Leading Aberdeenshire caterer helps feed frontline staff at ARI

Hudsons have been feeding people in Aberdeen and the shire for over 40 years. Like many in their industry due to Covid-19 they were facing imminent closure.

With all corporate events and weddings cancelled for the foreseeable future, income slashed but outgoings continuing it became obvious that they had to think out of the box if they were to survive. Therein lay a possible answer. They began a delivery and take out service.

Over the years of being in Blackburn Industrial Estate, Hudsons have offered carry out lunches for local businesses. Popular ‘specials’ made from local ingredients that are ordered in to make up event food are always snapped up.

Nothing too fancy for the lunches but food people recognise and love. North East folk seem to appreciate quality and Hudsons team, led by Ann Milne, produce it at excellent value.

After some thought, prompted by requests from customers about the possibility of delivering food and essentials to relatives in isolation, Hudsons decided to start delivering ready meals to be heated up when needed.

Feedback on the boxes was wonderful. Many saw them as a lifeline. Having set up an automatic system for ordering and payment, Hudsons delivered to the doorstep. Whilst initially deliveries had to be local, the customer base grew, and the area expanded.

Shortly after lockdown happened they were told about an incredible not for profit charity https://www.mealsforthenhs.com/ and were encouraged to contact them. Started in London by some young entrepreneurs, raising money from the wonderful British public it was offering free food to front line workers, made by top restaurants facing closure.

Hudsons were told that it didn’t look like Aberdeen/Grampian would need the services but that if and when they did, there would be a call.

It came on May 3. Incredibly slick set up for all, Hudsons have now been delivering 150 meals, three times a week and following reviews, the staff seem to love it.

Hudsons are delighted to be offering online order. Click here for more information.
