Leading City PR Firm takes on BIG challenge for local charity

Staff at Aberdeen’s largest PR and marketing agency, BIG Partnership, are in training for a raft of fitness and other challenges to raise £10,000 for local charity Befriend A Child in the next 12 months.

The full-service marketing agency has nominated Befriend a Child as its official charity partner in Aberdeen, with money raised over the next year being used to support disadvantaged children in the North-east.

Teams from BIG have already signed up to the 15-mile Kiltwalk challenge in June, the half marathon Great Aberdeen Run in August and 10k obstacle race, the Banchory Beast, in September.

BIG Partnership employees in Aberdeen will boost their fundraising efforts with a quiz night, baking competitions and bag packing at local supermarkets. Money raised by BIG Partnership will contribute to the charity’s one to one befriending and mentoring services that support local children with the greatest need.

BIG director, Zoe Ogilvie, said: “For the past two years BIG has been creative sponsor of Befriend a Child’s popular annual ball and as a result, we’ve become increasingly aware of the great work the charity does for children in our local area.

“In a region as affluent as the North-east, around 8,000 children across Aberdeen City and Shire could benefit from the services provided by the charity so we’re proud to have Befriend a Child as our official charity partner and to support the important work they do.”

In addition to raising money for the charity, staff will also be given the opportunity to donate their time by taking on volunteering roles at events and workshops organised by Befriend a Child.

Mrs Ogilvie added: “This partnership, as voted for by our staff, will see us take on a programme of activities over the next year to help Befriend a Child provide life changing services to young people facing challenging situations.

“I’m really proud of the enthusiasm shown by the BIG team in signing up for so many different challenges. We really are prepared to go the extra mile to meet our fundraising target and help Befriend a Child support more disadvantaged children in our area.”

Befriend a Child provides support to school-aged children and young people growing up in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The charity delivers one-to-one befriending and mentoring services via trained volunteers who offer children the opportunity to experience more of what life has to offer and create happy childhood memories.

Befriend a Child’s chief executive officer, Sarah Misra said: “Having worked with BIG on a number of projects throughout the last two years we have got to know the team well and they are a fantastic fit as one of our charity partnerships. We are thrilled that they have chosen us as their 2019 partner.

“The team at BIG have expressed such enthusiasm and excitement about our work with children in the local community, and though it’s early days we have no doubt that this partnership is going to be a big success.”
