Leasing company funds to support close to heart cause of Crohn’s and Colitis

The Law Practice Leasing will donate a percentage of its lease writing profits during the autumn months to Crohn's and Colitis UK.

Monies are to go to the North-east branch, which is managed entirely by volunteers, and spans Banff to Inverbervie and Corgarff to the coast. Emma Higgins, leasing manager at The Law Practice Leasing, said: “This exceptionally deserving cause will benefit from part of the proceeds of all leases instructed in September, October and November. Staff were asked to nominate charities so it’s great that we can support causes that really mean something to the team.”

Ashleigh Carnie, trainee leasing co-ordinator, nominated Crohn’s and Colitis UK. She said: “My dad has had Crohn’s since 1993, before my brother and I were even born. Crohn’s and Colitis UK is fantastic and does lots of work to raise funds and awareness. They’ve given him advice on how to deal with his symptoms and helped with practical aspects too. It’s hard to get life and holiday insurance when you have Crohn’s, for example, so the charity signposted him to specific companies. They’ve helped us fundraise too; I did the ‘Nippy Dipper’ Boxing Day Dip with family and friends.”

Margaret Parfitt, chairperson at the Aberdeen and Shire group of Crohn\'s and Colitis UK, said: “We’re really grateful to all those who so kindly donate funds we can use to support important research and people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). We’re always amazed at the generosity of local folk. Without this, we’d find it very difficult to offer the support we do.

“We work closely with the medical teams at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Royal Children’s’ Hospital. We’re currently supporting IBD specialist nurses by funding their attendance at important conferences, as well as sourcing new mobile devices that give access to results and data anywhere in the hospital. We’re also purchasing equipment for the waiting area to keep young patients entertained when they’re undergoing treatment.

“Last year we used local donations to fund a wonderful day for young patients and their families at Transition Extreme; a chance to challenge themselves and experience ‘daring’ activities in a safe environment, as well as a chance for the parents to meet, hear from specialists and ask questions.”

This effort from The Law Practice Leasing comes as part of principal solicitor Margaret Waldron’s plans for The Law Practice and its leasing counterpart to support ten individual local charities during 2015, her tenth year of business.
