To support National Cholesterol Education Month this September in the US and October in the UK, Edinburgh-based health screening provider LiverScan is urging businesses to recognise the connection between liver function and cholesterol regulation - and how workplace screening can support early intervention.

Liver disease and high cholesterol often go hand in hand, especially in cases of metabolic dysfunction. Fatty liver, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and elevated cholesterol levels are increasingly common in working-age adults, and many individuals are unaware they’re at risk.

Using the gold standard FibroScan® technology, LiverScan brings quick, non-invasive liver checks into the workplace. Each scan measures liver fat and stiffness in just 15 minutes, providing instant results to employees and helping identify those at risk of cardiovascular and metabolic complications.

Claire Hardie, COO of LiverScan, said: “Most people know high cholesterol can lead to heart problems - but few realise that the liver plays a key role in cholesterol production and clearance. A stressed or fatty liver can disrupt this balance, increasing long-term risk.”

LiverScan’s onsite service is ready to support organisations across multiple sectors. For employers, it’s a powerful way to demonstrate care for staff health while reducing the long-term impact of preventable illness and absence.

To support the national campaign this September, LiverScan will be offering enhanced resources, awareness content and support for workplace screening events.

Employers interested in taking part can contact the LiverScan team to discuss how liver health links with cholesterol and how screening can be used as part of broader wellbeing, ESG or occupational health programmes.
