To mark World Hepatitis Day on 28 July, LiverScan encouraged employers across the North-east of Scotland to take proactive steps in supporting employee health through liver screening and education.
The Edinburgh-based clinic delivers workplace liver assessments using FibroScan® - a fast, non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides instant insight into liver fat and stiffness levels. These readings can reveal early signs of liver damage, including that caused by undiagnosed hepatitis B or C infection.
According to the British Liver Trust, liver disease is the third leading cause of premature death in the UK, and hepatitis is one of the main contributors. The condition is often asymptomatic in its early stages, which makes early detection and screening vital - especially in a working-age population.
Claire Hardie, COO of LiverScan, said: “Hepatitis doesn’t always show symptoms until serious liver damage has occurred. The workplace offers a unique and underused opportunity to raise awareness and provide early screening. A 15-minute scan can uncover issues that might otherwise go unnoticed for years.”
LiverScan’s mobile service can support businesses across sectors including construction, finance, energy, and public services. The screening is quick, painless and needle-free, and employees receive their results immediately. Those with concerning findings are signposted for medical follow-up and encouraged to make healthy lifestyle changes.
In support of World Hepatitis Day, LiverScan is urging companies to consider integrating liver health into their wider wellbeing strategy. Alongside screenings, LiverScan offers talks, resources and awareness materials to help educate staff about hepatitis, alcohol consumption, diet, and general liver function.
In addition to screenings, LiverScan offered talks, educational materials and practical resources to raise awareness around hepatitis, alcohol, diet, and liver health. Employers can encourage awareness by organising a liver screening event, sharing educational content internally, or encouraging staff to check their risk factors.
