Members of the local community are invited to attend an informative and exciting open day at The James Hutton Institute’s new high-tech Hutton Hub in Aberdeen.

The multi-million-pound development, which is located at the Hutton’s Craigiebuckler campus, provides a space for businesses, academics and communities to collaborate using cutting-edge technology and facilities.

Financed by the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund, the Macaulay Development Trust and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the Hub includes conference suites, meeting rooms, touch tables, VR headsets, a podcast studio and a 360-degree Immersive Suite with surround sound and nine projectors, which allow for images to be broadcast across all four walls.

Members of the public are invited to come along between 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday 10th December to explore the new facilities and learn more about the vital work being done by the Hutton.

Visitors will get the chance to see every part of the Hub, hear about exciting projects in a series of short talks delivered by our scientists and experience our new immersive suite and virtual reality technology.

The Hub’s café will also be serving hot drinks and treats free of charge as a thank you for all the support we’ve received from the community throughout our recent renovation, and researchers will be available throughout the evening to discuss their work and answer any questions.

The event is free to attend, and tickets can be booked via Eventbrite. Attendees can also register by dropping into our Craigiebucker reception before or on the evening of December 10th.

Professor Lee-Ann Sutherland, Director of the International Land Use Study Centre and a leader in securing funding for the Hub, said, “We’re excited to open our new immersive suite and conferencing hub to the community.

“This facility reflects our commitment to open science and provides an innovative space where collaboration, capacity building and community engagement can truly flourish.”
