Local Funeral Director opens state-of-the-art mortuary

An Aberdeen funeral director has opened a new mortuary, offering improved facilities and state-of-the-art equipment to the public.

Mark Shaw Funeral Services bought a neighbouring property to their funeral home in Kincorth and joined the buildings together.

Mr Shaw, who founded the business in 2004, said the new, purpose-built facility means they could offer a “better, calmer and more relaxed experience” for their visiting families.

He said: “The significant investment in the new mortuary facility helps take the business to the next stage, helping us help those who need us the most.

“It is really important that we can offer families a place where they feel they can at ease during such a difficult time, a place where they know their loved one is being cared for in the best working conditions.”

The expansion will see the company’s original funeral home, in George Street, used solely now for the use of family visits, rest room visits and funeral arranging.

The new mortuary will be used for care of the deceased, including embalming and bariatric services.

Mr Shaw said: “Since we started in 2004 we have grown and continually looked to invest in the business, and we got to the stage where we had outgrown our existing space if we wanted to offer the very best service we could.

“We were fortunate the neighbouring building, a former guest house, came up for sale, and it provided us with the perfect solution. We are always looking to invest in the business to do everything we can to help the Aberdeen community.

“The extra space also helps through increased parking, office space and better staff facilities, which are key to our aim of helping create good jobs and working conditions for the best funeral professionals we can employ.”
