A leading Aberdeen-based IT firm is celebrating winning a prestigious workplace award by announcing that it has secured a significant three-year contact.
For the third year in a row, local and independently owned Managed Services and Security Provider (MSSP) Alto has been named one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work, powered by WorkL. The scheme recognises employers of all shapes and sizes from across the UK by surveying teams via an employee engagement exercise.
The news coincides with the recent award of a contract to establish and maintain internet connectivity for five floating offshore wind turbines at the Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm, the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm. In partnership with Cobra Wind and Dragados, Alto will ensure seamless digital connectivity between the turbines and onshore substation.
The scope of work will include the provision and maintenance of the connections needed for a digital twin to monitoring the assets, linking them to an onshore substation. The contract will also see Alto provide associated cybersecurity services, a specialism which now accounts for more than a third of the company’s overall revenues.
Bruce Skinner
Founded in 2009 and brought into sole ownership of chief executive officer Bruce Skinner in 2020, Alto’s team is based in the North-east of Scotland. The company draws on many decades of in-house experience to deliver products and services of the highest calibre to a growing client base across manufacturing, food, energy services, healthcare, renewables and other sectors. Clients are located throughout the UK and overseas, including Spain, France, Denmark, Canada, the USA and the Philippines.
Commenting on Alto’s recent win in the renewables sector, chief executive officer Bruce Skinner said: “Being recognised by the Sunday Times Best Places to Work reflects the culture we’ve built around being supportive, committed and authentic in everything we do. It’s a credit to the whole team and the environment we’ve created together.
“The simultaneous announcement of this landmark contract is pivotal because it sets us on a course towards further diversifying our income streams and keeps our products and services at the forefront of the North East’s evolving economy.
“Working alongside Cobra Wind and Dragados has given us valuable insight into offshore wind connectivity, and we’re delighted to bring that expertise to the broader renewables market.”
He added: “The award is also a clear demonstration that our customer-led solutions in great demand – out of the 50 fastest growing companies in Scotland, four are in Aberdeen and Alto supports three of them.”
