Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel ‘VOWS’ with national award honour

A leading Granite City hotel has been crowned the winner of a national award in recognition of its celebrated wedding venue and high-quality customer service.

Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel has clinched the coveted title for Wedding Venue – Aberdeen & Grampian at this year’s Scottish VOWS Awards, after being the only city-based venue to make the regional shortlist.

The VOWS (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) result was announced at a black-tie ceremony at the DoubleTree Hilton Glasgow Central. The other north-east venues in the same category were Banff Springs Hotel, Drumtochty Castle and Meldrum House Country Hotel.

Ivan Franssen, general manager at Macdonald Norwood Hall, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have won a VOWS award and to have done Aberdeen city proud. We were up against some tough competition and would like to congratulate all the other nominees from our category, as well as the other winners on the night.

“Our staff continue to go above and beyond for every single wedding guest that visits the hotel and they should take immense pride in this achievement; it really is a great honour.”

Macdonald Norwood Hall is also in the running for further wedding industry success on Sunday, November 26 as part of the Top Tier Awards at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen. The hotel has been shortlisted for the Venue of the Year honour, while Julie Love has been nominated for Wedding Co-Ordinator of the Year.

Julie Love, wedding sales manager at Macdonald Norwood Hall, said: “This award really is a dream come true for us and gives fantastic recognition to the hotel. Our team works tirelessly to give wedding guests a day to remember, and now it’s their turn to celebrate.

“The team is naturally thrilled to have picked up the prestigious VOWS award and hopefully we can carry that momentum through into Sunday.”

Built in 1881 on the site of the 15th century Pitfodels Castle, Macdonald Norwood Hall is located within easy reach of Aberdeen city centre and offers 73 luxury bedrooms surrounded by breathtaking Scottish scenery.

Aberdeen’s country house in the city, the hotel boasts state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities and is perfect for business and leisure guests with family events including weddings catered for all year round.

In 2015, Macdonald Norwood Hall celebrated a hat-trick of prestigious honours as part of the Scottish Hotel Awards. The venue was named conference hotel of the year and wedding hotel of the year, while Kenny McMillan won executive chef of the year.
