Maggie’s Culture Crawl bounds back to Aberdeen after first year success

Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre is set to host its second annual Culture Crawl on June 22 this year after the success of last year’s event which saw nearly 400 people take part, collectively raising over £76,000 for cancer care in the North-east.

The brand new 10-mile route will explore even more of the granite city and many of Aberdeen’s hidden gems. As with last year, the exact route and locations will be a closely guarded secret and with an eclectic line up of entertainment and locally produced food and drink to enjoy along the way, there will be some great surprises for everyone taking part.

Brodies LLP will once again be the main sponsor of the event, which will begin at the Aberdeen Sports Village and conclude at the Maggie’s centre.

Paula Cormack, centre fundraising manager for Maggie’s Aberdeen, said: “We’re so excited to be staging our second Culture Crawl in Aberdeen and incredibly grateful to Brodies for their continued support.

“There’s great anticipation following the massive success of last year’s event and this one is shaping up to be a really amazing evening for everyone to enjoy and an excellent opportunity to soak up the rich architecture, heritage and culture of our city, all the while supporting the vital services that Maggie’s offer.”

One walker who took part last year said: “Culture Crawl was an amazing evening, organised really well and supported by amazing volunteer marshals who were so upbeat and helped keep everyone going. Having lived in Aberdeen all my life, it took Maggie's to open my eyes to some of the wonders in the city.

“As a healthcare professional working in cancer care, I see daily the impact Maggie's centres make on people's lives - I was delighted to take part in such a fun event to help them continue their amazing work!”

Nick Scott, managing partner-elect of Brodies LLP, said: The difference Maggie’s makes to all those affected by cancer has compelled us to support the good work it does for more than eight years. The Culture Crawl is a great initiative that allows individuals to learn about Aberdeen while raising the vital funds it needs to help those going through the most difficult times.

Registration is now open for Culture Crawl Aberdeen 2018 www.maggiescentres.org/ccaberdeen. Places are limited so early sign up is recommended. The registration fee is £20 and Maggie’s is asking everyone to try to raise at least £100 to help fund Maggie’s unique programme of cancer support. There are a number of sponsorship opportunities still available and Maggie’s is also encouraging supporters to consider volunteering to help Culture Crawl run smoothly.

Participants must be aged 16 and over (with under 18s accompanied by an adult). For news and updates about Maggie’s and Culture Crawl please follow on @maggiesaberdeen and Instagram.com/maggiesaberdeen.
