Aberdeen based cutting specialists CUT UK completed a major Australian project recently. CUT completed all cuts on the Harriet Alpha, a major offshore oil platform in Western Australia, operated by Santos. It is the largest offshore rig ever to be removed from Australian waters.
Bruce Sinclair, Business Development Manager for CUT said, “I was in Australia earlier this year and one thing that really stuck with me was the number of times I heard that “Perth is all about the world’s biggest.” CUT fits nicely into that theme, because we have an amazing track record when it comes to big cutting projects. We have completed the biggest diamond wire cuts in the world, the deepest diamond wire cuts ever, and now we can say we have done the cuts to allow the largest platform removal project in Australia so far.”
46 cuts were completed in total using CUTs range of subsea cutting machines and supporting equipment. Tiziana Marras, General Manager said “Australia is currently entering a significant era of offshore oil and gas decommissioning and CUT are exactly the type of company that this market requires – proven track record, unique patented solutions, and the ability to cut any target regardless of size, material or depth.”
Installed in 1985 and ceasing production in 2013, Harriet Alpha was a pioneering development in Western Australia’s offshore oil and gas industry and forms part of a broader decommissioning program in the region. Following the award of the engineering, procurement, removal and disposal (EPRD) scope to McDermott in 2024, CUT were awarded the cutting scopes by McDermott. This project achieved many milestones, including being the largest offshore platform removal in Australia.
