A man has died after he and another crew member went overboard a Banff-registered fishing vessel during stormy weather.
The Coastguard received a mayday call from the Fortitude BF11 boat around 4.20pm on Sunday after the two crew members went overboard.
The incident happened 14 miles off the coat of Newbiggin in Northumberland, the BBC reports.
Despite a rescue operation involving a Coastguard helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, lifeboats and assistance from other nearby vessels, Northumbria Police have now confirmed a man has died.
The condition of the other crew member who went overboard is unknown.
Severe weather at the time of the incident and rescue operation included gale force winds and a 16ft swell.
