Aldi recorded its strongest Christmas trading in Britain as shoppers cut costs while still splashing out on premium festive food.
The supermarket said UK sales rose 3% to £1.7billion in the four weeks to Christmas Eve, with sales in the final week before Christmas up more than 5% to £500million.
Aldi, which is Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, reported strong growth in its “Specially Selected” premium own-label range, with sales up 12%.
In the run-up to Christmas, shoppers bought around 56 million potatoes, 500,000 turkeys, 37 million carrots and 5.5 million bottles of sparkling wine, with more than 57 million transactions processed in the month to December 24.
Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “This Christmas proved once again that a great quality Christmas can still be affordable.
"As we move into 2026 our focus remains unchanged, keeping prices low and quality high so that every household in Britain can enjoy amazing food all year round.”

The UK's flagship share index, the FTSE 100, was up 76-points at 10,049 shortly after opening this morning.
Brent crude oil futures were down 0.38% at $60.82 a barrel.
