Anthropic is set to become the first AI giant to list on the stock market with a potential $1trillion initial public offering.

The firm behind popular AI chatbot Claude, Anthropic has submitted a draft registration to the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed IPO, The Times reports.

While the price and number of shares to be offered is not yet known, the development puts Anthropic firmly in pole position to be the first of the major AI model developers to go public.

A $65billion funding round last week let to Anthropic overtaking ChatGPT maker OpenAI in terms of company value, $965billion to $852billion.

The Ramp AI Index last month found Anthropic had also leapfrogged OpenAi when it comes to adoption by businesses, 34.4% to 32.3%.

OpenAI is also expected to list this year, but Anthropic - which was founded by Chief Executive Dario Amodei after leaving OpenAI following disagreements with its Chief Executive Sam Altman - appears primed to get there first.
