OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has been valued at $835billion following the completion of a record-breaking funding round.

The funding round saw individual wealthy investors participate for the first time, with the funds set to boost production of a new "super app".

The tool is being designed to combine ChatGPT, Codex, browsing and the company’s agentic capabilities into a single app.

The Times reports the funding round reached a total of $122billion of committed capital, an increase on the $110billion figure the company announced in February.

At the time it was announced Amazon had invested $50billion, with separate $30billion commitments from both Nvidia and Softbank.

OpenAI said this week it had raised an additional $12billion, with $3billion of that coming from wealthy individuals.
