Prime Minister Andy Burnham will today promise a “culture shift” in the government’s relationship with business as he hosts some of Britain’s biggest employers and entrepreneurs at Downing Street.

Senior figures from BP and Shell will join executives from companies including HSBC, Rolls-Royce, BT, Aviva and BAE Systems, while the founders of Octopus Energy, Revolut UK and AI semiconductor business Fractile are among those taking part in an earlier roundtable.

Burnham will pledge that his government will be a “partner for growth”, with discussions focused on making it easier to start, grow and invest in businesses and encouraging greater investment and re-industrialisation across the UK.

He said Britain had the talent and ambition to succeed but added: “We need a culture shift in how Britain does business.”

Burnham said government must be “on the side of the people who take risks, start companies, create jobs and bring new ideas to life”, while “making it easier to start and grow a business”.
