Shell has this morning posted its Q2 results, revealing profits and more than doubled with the Middle East conflict forcing up oil prices.

For the April to June period, Shell's profits soared to $9.84billion (£7.37billion), marking a stark climb from the 2025 Q2 figure of $4.26billion.

Shell says the earnings figure "reflects strong operational performance across the businesses despite Middle East outages, with record upstream production in Brazil and record refinery utilisation".

Commenting on the figures and announcing a $3billion share buyback, Shell plc Chief Executive Officer Wael Sawan said: "Shell's operational performance enabled very strong results during another quarter of severe disruption in global energy markets, as we worked hard to provide critical energy supplies and products to our customers.

"Consistent with our strategy, we remain disciplined in our capital allocation, divesting non-core assets and investing in higher-quality growth opportunities, including the announced ARC acquisition.

"Today, we commence another $3billion of share buybacks, in line with our 40-50% of CFFO through the cycle distribution policy."

It comes as the war in Iran and closure of the Strait or Hormuz - through which much of the world's oil and gas supplies are transported - has led to surging oil and gas prices which has risen and fallen as peace talks between the US and Iran progress and collapse.
