Marcliffe has announced the appointment of Alan Clarke as its new Executive Chef.

A highly regarded and innovative chef, Alan brings 18 years of refined experience to his role at Marcliffe, with responsibility spanning all of the hotel’s culinary offering.

Originally from Forres, Alan, 35, first forged his career path after winning the UK Accor Chef Challenge for Britain at just 21.

He went on to hone his skills under Shirley Spear, the renowned former owner of The Three Chimneys in Skye, contributing to the restaurant retaining its three AA Rosettes. He later led the kitchen as Head Chef at two Aberdeenshire hotels, rising to Executive Chef in his most recent previous role.

Alan said: “It is an exciting time for the culinary team, with the recent launch of Skylark Brasserie and The Conservatory restaurant achieving an AA Rosette last year.  I look forward to building on the hotel’s strong reputation and bringing my own flair to the menus, while continuing to establish Marcliffe as one of Aberdeen’s leading dining destinations.  The acquisition of Woodbank, along with the plans for the spa and leisure development, will also allow me to introduce something different for the menus, when it opens.”

Privately owned, Marcliffe has long been recognised for its food, championing world-class produce from trusted local suppliers. In November, The Conservatory Restaurant was awarded an AA Rosette, recognising cuisine that stands out within its local area for quality, consistency, and skilful preparation using carefully selected ingredients.

Managing Director Jordan Charles added: “We are delighted to welcome Alan to our talented team. His creativity, experience and passion for excellence make him a fantastic addition to Marcliffe, and we are excited for the next chapter in the hotel’s culinary journey.”
