Name: Glenn Bowen
Company: Grampian Accounting
Job Title: Director
Give us the elevator pitch for your business:
Grampian Accounting is a family-run accountancy firm based in Westhill with a team of 17, supporting businesses with everything from accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and personal tax through to proactive business advice. We aim to be the sort of accountants you actually enjoy talking to.
Who are your customers?
We work with businesses of all shapes and sizes, but our specialisms are oil and gas contractors, the trades, and small businesses with turnover under £2million. No business is too small for us, we treat everyone with the time they need to get the best advice and maximise their tax savings.
What is the biggest challenge and opportunity your organisation is facing right now?
Technology – it feels like we’re in an arms race to effectively implement AI with our accounting services. The challenge is no one wants to deal with a robot, I certainly don’t, and so we are cautiously exploring how we can gain the benefits of integrating AI into our workflows without compromising the human relationships we build with clients or the quality and oversight behind all our services.
What is your word of advice for fellow Chamber members?
Over my 15 year career in accounting I’ve valued continued learning – no one is an expert in everything. The more we learn the better service we can provide our clients – don’t be afraid to say ‘I don’t know’!
What is the best thing about being a Chamber member?
The Chamber, for us, is a great hub of both learning and information. For me personally read the daily bulletin each morning and it keeps me up to date with Aberdeen business news without having to go looking for it.
