Name: Stuart Ross
Company: Stuart Ross Media
Job title: Photographer, Videographer & Drone Pilot
Give us the elevator pitch for your business.
I am a freelance photographer, videographer and drone pilot who produces digital content for a variety of audiences across Scotland. My business focuses on two areas - sports and events and corporate and commercial.
Who are your customers?
I work with event organisers, tour operators, small to mid-sized companies, trusts and charities with sector experience across sports, tourism and leisure, energy & industry and professional services. This diversification reflects the versatile nature of my job. One day I could be filming a highlights video for a group of overseas visitors playing an iconic Scottish golf course, the next I could be taking headshots for a law firm or flying my drone to capture a critical phase of a construction project.
What is the biggest challenge and opportunity your organisation is facing right now?
The main challenge is standing out in what can often feel like a saturated market. Technological advances and favourable pricing of prosumer equipment have softened barriers to entry and increased competition. Yet at the same time there is the ever-increasing demand for digital content - be it still or moving picture format. Whilst photography and videography obviously differ in many respects, clients often demand both and being able to offer a hybrid service – as well as handling all stages of pre- and post-production – is a good position to capitalise on these opportunities.
What is your word of advice for fellow Chamber members?
Avoid fads and trends as they detract from cultivating your own authentic and personal style.
What is the best thing about being a Chamber member?
Connecting with businesses and audiences in the North-east of Scotland and the potential to grow organically via new relationships. The chamber is a fantastic platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing and I am very much looking forward to being part of this network.
